Lab Activities
1. Double check to make sure that the Sonic-Sole sensors are connected to the server link
(instructors will let you know when you are ready to go)
2. There are 4 interactive labs: Jumping, Balancing, Reaction, and Precision, using the
SonicSole.
3. Read the instructions on the screen for each activity.
4. Follow the directions carefully.
5. Finish the task before moving to the next step.
6. If you have any questions, ask your teacher.
Activity 1
This activity is known as the performance lab, which involves the students in the group jumping and collecting data. To jump, each student must stand on the insole with their full weight on it first, then jump straight up as high as you can and land back on the insole. The system detects takeoff and landing to estimate your jump height. Repeat for 4 students and copy down each person’s data.
Activity 2
This activity is known as the stability lab, which involves the students in the group balancing and collecting data. To balance, each student must stand on the insole on one foot and hold it as still as you can for the full session. The insole tracks micro-motion and rewards steadier posture with a higher score. Repeat for 4 students and copy down each person’s data.
Activity 3
This activity is known as the timing lab, which involves the students in the group testing their
reactions and collecting data. To test reaction, each student must stand ready on the insole and watch the box on screen. As soon as it lights up pink, press down hard. Pressing before the box lights up counts as a false start. Repeat for 4 students and copy down each person’s data.
Activity 4
This activity is known as the control lab, which involves the students in the group testing their
precision and collecting data. To test/train precision, each student must press down on the
selected sensor(heel by default— change it under settings → precision) to match the target force shown on the meter. Hold as close to the target as possible— the closer your current force is to the target, the better your score. Repeat for 4 students and copy down each person’s data.
